It seems difficult to imagine someone improving on the lovingly crafted Resident Evil films. After all, they take the continuity and character development of the games so seriously. However, it looks like Capcom might have pulled off the impossible–a good Resident Evil movie!
It’s difficult to image that after twenty years the world is finally getting a new Indiana Jones film and it isn’t the most hyped film of the summer. That’s the breaks, however, and instead movie fans are going ga-ga over The Dark Knight. If you’re one of these rabid fans, then you might enjoy these two new TV spots that showoff some before now unseen footage.
While combing the Internet the other day for a good cut of the Mac and Metrailer for the product placement article, this terrifying piece was found. Imagine if Mac and Me wasn’t a bad kids’ film, but a horrific vision of alien invaders? Well, imagine no longer, as this trailer edit puts the film in a new light.
It may not be the most anticipated summer film for some, but for diehard fans there is no bigger summer fare than Speed Racer. If the trailers have left you iffy on it, then now you can view the first seven minutes above. So, how does it look?
Speed Racer sure has been seeing a lot of trailers released. This is either a good sign, as the producers really want to show off their fantastic film. Or, this is a bad sign showing that they have no idea how to market this very cartoonish looking action film.
In case you are unsure, red band trailers are essentially R-rated cuts of trailers. Where a normal movie trailer you see in theaters has has basically no cursing or gore, red band trailers are free to include such things. You may not be familiar with them since they’ve been missing from most theaters for a while now, but that is about to change. (more…)
The final trailer for Speed Racer is not just action packed, but a shock to the system. After the disappointing Matrix sequels, the brothers Wachowski appear to have found their visual touch once again. The trailer oozes with style and adrenaline. Does it look good? Not in the traditional sense. The plot doesn’t look riveting and the characters appear paper thin. However, in the grand tradition of summer popcorn films (think The Day After Tomorrow), it looks like a blast. It’s a film you’re going to want to see opening weekend with a crowd, and possibly on the iMAX screen. It’s just one of the most fun trailers in years.
The new trailer for The Bourne Conspiracy doesn’t look particularly revolutionary. In fact, it appears to be nothing much more than the assimilation of many different recently popular titles. However, it looks to assimilate them so well. There’s the run, duck, cover and fire of Uncharted, and what surely appear to be some quick time escape events a la God of War. Still, in looking for games to “borrow” from, a developer could certainly choose worse subjects. It may not redefine the genre, but it at least looks to be a worthy entry.
The Onion is one of those rare web site–it’s actually successful at being funny. That being said, the idea of an Onion movie doesn’t exactly instill confidence into one’s soul. Fake news articles are one thing, but can it really translate to the silver screen? Well, in this case, it won’t have to. Instead, the movie is coming straight to DVD. What’s incredibly interesting about all of this, however, is that the trailer actually looks good. No, it doesn’t look good in the way a film like Meet the Spartans looks good to twelve-year-olds, but it looks good to anyone who can remember HBO’s Not Necessarily the News. It looks good to anyone who can remember a time when comedy was more satire than sarcasm. Will it be a classic? Not likely, as it has been sitting on some dusty shelf for four years now. Still, the trailer alone is funnier than 95% of comedies released into theaters.
Steve Carell is a real comic talent, but he is a dependent one. He has trouble carrying the brunt of jokes entirely himself (like a Steve Martin), and is best when he has someone to play off of (like a Dan Akroyd). The first trailer for the new Get Smart movie was undeniably flawed and lacked the comedic energy of the original TV show. The new trailer is much better, but it still seems like the film is relying too much on Carell and not enough on his talented co-stars. Hopefully this is the wrong impression, as the supporting cast looks stellar for a movie of this sort.
