It may not be the most anticipated summer film for some, but for diehard fans there is no bigger summer fare than Speed Racer. If the trailers have left you iffy on it, then now you can view the first seven minutes above. So, how does it look?

Speed Racer sure has been seeing a lot of trailers released. This is either a good sign, as the producers really want to show off their fantastic film. Or, this is a bad sign showing that they have no idea how to market this very cartoonish looking action film.
The final trailer for Speed Racer is not just action packed, but a shock to the system. After the disappointing Matrix sequels, the brothers Wachowski appear to have found their visual touch once again. The trailer oozes with style and adrenaline. Does it look good? Not in the traditional sense. The plot doesn’t look riveting and the characters appear paper thin. However, in the grand tradition of summer popcorn films (think The Day After Tomorrow), it looks like a blast. It’s a film you’re going to want to see opening weekend with a crowd, and possibly on the iMAX screen. It’s just one of the most fun trailers in years.
There’s been quite a bit of buzz around the new Speed Racer film, from the brothers who brought you The Matrix trilogy. The newest nugget to whet the appetite of fans? The film will debut on Imax screens alongside the theatrical release. This is becoming more and more common for bgi special effects films. It seems the day is coming soon when all major releases will make it to Imax screens. Of course, the next step after that is Imax 3D. Speed Racer drives into theaters May 9. Check out the trailer above.
It doesn’t show much, and what it does show looks obviously not from the game. Still, the mere thought of a potentially good Speed Racer (one has not been made since the days of the original PlayStation) has funs all in a flutter. The game looks like it will be heavily inspired by the movie, more so than the cartoon. That means Hot Wheels inspired tracks and less of an anime look. That’s fine, as long as you get buzz saws in the front of the car, right?
