Five terrible product placements

Files under Film, TV | 3 Comments |

People have gotten used to product placements over the years, but some are just too much.  They’re too intrusive, too overt, and too frequent.  The five featured here are some of the worst and sure to make you cringe at the thought of “artistic integrity.”  By the way, be sure to visit sister site Game With A Brain.

30 Rock tackles uncanny valley with world’s first porn video game

Files under Games, TV | 5 Comments |

has steadily become one of television’s finest shows.  In fact, it’s easily the best sitcom on right now.  Part of that winning appeal comes from its biting satire that has really taken off in the show’s current second season.  Thursday’s episode turned to video games of a decidedly adult nature.

What is it with black leather?  Why does every comic book turned film have to drape its heroes in black leather?  Are they all bikers?  Aren’t moviegoers already suspending their disbelief enough with flying people to accept they might wear orange?

The future of the Wii2 may already be showing

Files under Games | 1 Comment |

Johnny Lee is a nerd’s nerd.  He wasn’t simply satisfied with owning the hard to find Wii.  No, Mr. Lee wanted to make a cool little gaming system even cooler.  And he succeeded.  That’s a nerd’s nerd.

Specifically, Mr. Lee is behind the famous tech demo using a pair of glasses to make the Wii present actual 3D images using head tracking software.  In turn, this technique will now be used in Electronic Arts Boom Blox title.  Not too shabby Mr. Lee, but he wasn’t done there.  A new tech demo shows off using the Wii as a virtual whiteboard, a use that Lee notes could save schools thousands of dollars.  Again, not too shabby.

Steven Spielberg is an interesting guy.  As his career has lengthened, he has seemed less and less interested in personally making the big popcorn films that made him a household name.  That’s understandable.  What is sort of interesting is his continued interest in such films from a producing standpoint.  Lately there’s been , and now Ghost In The Shell.

Project Runway’s Nina Garcia gets canned from day job

Nina Garcia, one of the judges from Bravo’s Project Runway series, has been fired from her day job as Fashion Director for Elle Magazine.  This probably comes as good or bad news for you depending on how you respond to her personality on the show, or if you’re a reader of Elle Magazine.  Still, it’s always sad to see someone lose their job and hopefully she rebounds soon.

It does raise questions about how this might affect her position on the show, though.  This also comes at a time when Lifetime and Bravo are fighting for rights to the show.  It would be sad to see one of the better reality shows go down to, well, a cat fight.

Incredible Hulk gets fairly incredible poster

One thing you will have to hand to comic book movies, it looks like they’re finally starting to get the whole thing.  From 3’s memorable black and red Spideys facing off, to this new one for The Incredible Hulk, it appears those in marketing finally realized they are adapting from a very visual medium that may already have 1,000s of great ideas waiting to be used.  Each issue’s cover is another brilliant possibility!  Oddly enough, this (courtesy of IGN) resembles a certain comic book.

sure has been seeing a lot of trailers released.  This is either a good sign, as the producers really want to show off their fantastic film.  Or, this is a bad sign showing that they have no idea how to market this very cartoonish looking film.
