Here’s the thing about American Idol: it isn’t great and they take advantage of the artists, but pretty much everyone who has launched a career from it owes it everything. It’s a sad realization for many, but most American Idol contestants would have gotten nowhere without the show’s ubiquitous PR behind them. That includes last season’s runner-up Blake Lewis. This appearance on a radio show, while sprinkled with some truth, just makes him seem like such a prima donna for someone who hasn’t really accomplished all that much. It’s akin to being snobby at a monster truck rally.
Variety is reporting that Knight Rider will be reborn for the third time as a series. The new series will be continued from the February TV movie which saw a new KITT and a whole new cast, with a cameo from original Knight, David Hasselhoff. Now, the only thing to truly pine for is a full-time recurring role for Hasselhoff.
South Park is the little show that could. With its crude animation and sort of gimmicky premise of trash talking kids, many expected it to fade into oblivion long ago. Yet, here it is now in its twelfth season still going strong. If you were a late convert, or simply miss a favorite episode, now you can watch them all for free online. (more…)
Or does she? That seems to be the sentiment floating around the Internet, but it apparently originates from people who lack a sense of humor for the most part. Fey has proven herself to be many things, but dismissive of other comedians is not one of them.
The uproar comes for a Reader’s Digest interview in which Fey is asked, “What pleases you more, applause or laughter?” She responds (more…)
The Return of Jezebel James was supposed to be Amy Sherman-Palladino’s triumphant return to television. She and her husband had been sort of forced out of Gilmore Girls’ last season, and this was supposed to be the show that vindicated her as a creator. Unfortunately, after only three episodes, she has been vanquished again. (more…)
Have you not been getting enough Robin Williams lately? Is rewatching Aladdin and Popeye just not feeling an empty hole in your life? Thank goodness for Law & Order: SVU then, as they’re giving new territory for Williams to roam. He will guest star in the upcoming 200th episode to air April 29. (more…)
Is this really brain feeding news? No, of course not. The fact that Miley Cyrus has filed papers to officially change her name to, well, Miley Cyrus is hardly the biggest news of the day. Still, it gets at a bigger issue.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with Miss Cyrus from an outward perspective. She seems to be fairly grounded and has a father, Billy Ray, who has been through all this instant fame stuff before. Still, there’s something a little weird about her officially changing her name to Miley Ray Cyrus, even if it was from the horrid Destiny Hope Cyrus (really Billy Ray?). (more…)
Just in case you missed it, Beverly Hills 90210 is returning to network television in the form of a spin-off show. Exactly what form the new spin-off will take is still up in the air, as it hasn’t been determined yet whether any of the original cast will return. Rob Thomas, creator of Veronica Mars, has apparently been picked to write the pilot project. (more…)
Someday, comedy and satire classes should be taught using Tina Fey’s infamous “Bitch is the new black” monologue, and contrasting it with Tracy Morgan’s “Black is the new president, bitch.” Morgan stumbles his way through the jokes, and the punchline is the one part delivered with any confidence. The problem is that it really isn’t all that funny in lieu of Fey’s. Fey was being irreverent a social commentator. Morgan, in comparison, feels like the little kid on the playground shouting back, “Nuh uh, my dad can beat up your day!” Morgan can be very funny in the right circumstances, such as Fey’s 30 Rock. But here, he just mostly feels stale.
