30 Rock tackles uncanny valley with world’s first porn video game

Files under Games, TV | Posted by Justin | Email, Facebook, Etc.

has steadily become one of television’s finest shows.  In fact, it’s easily the best sitcom on right now.  Part of that winning appeal comes from its biting satire that has really taken off in the show’s current second season.  Thursday’s episode turned to video games of a decidedly adult nature.

Tracy Jordan, the character played by Saturday Night Live alum Tracy Morgan, decides he must leave his children a legacy.  This is all in response to the fact that his son did not invite him to Bring Your Father to School Day.  So, what brilliant scheme does he arrive at?  Combining his two favorite pleasures– and video games.

That’s a fine joke by itself, but the real charm comes from the development of the game.  It sparks a debate with one of the characters over the nature of the Uncanny Valley, which then leads to a very funny Star Wars analogy.  Unfortunately, the episode ends before the inevitable firestorm the game will surely bring.  You’ll just have to tune into a future episode for that.  Two clips from the episode are presented, in order.  Click here to view the full episode at Hulu.com.

Please don’t embed Hulu videos that can’t be seen outside the US. Passing on the big FU on behalf of NBC is not cool.

Especially since the same tech is being used to serve localized ads, so you’re obviously making money of non-US visitors.

(And btw, yes, I’ve seen the episode, that’s why we’ve got bittorrent. Fuck Hulu.)

I don’t agree. It’s our country, our videos and we’ll do whatever we want with them.

There’s an easy solution for you guys. I also live outside the US and by using a freeware app such as hotspot shield (which creates a virtual private network) you can hide your ip and access hulu and other websites that require you to live in the us.

Interesting post. Alternatively, if Arrested Development or the West Wing were on it would be no contest. Also, the Office is arguably as funny or better.
