Finally, for the music nerd who has everything: the Tape Project

Looking for that certain something for that special music nerd in your life?  Do they already have every conceivable piece of music listening equipment known to man?  Perhaps, but do they have 10.5" reels from the original analog recordings?

The Tape Project is one of those incredibly weird ideas that really only appeals to the nuttiest of audiophiles.  Sure, everyone wants to hear their music in the best possible manner, but most are willing to make sacrifices because either they doubt they could really tell a difference, or because they simply value convenience over quality.  This is the same reason everyone listens to iPods today when CDs were generally of higher quality (depending on how you rip your music).

Where does something like this end up?  Exactly where it positions itself as a niche.  That’s just fine for the audiophiles, as long as they don’t mind a few awkward stares from the peanut gallery.
