At least one new theater chain is hoping so.  Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas is the new project that will bring high class luxury to moviegoers.  Not only do they hope you will shell out big bucks to see a movie, but they hope you’ll indulge in some fine cuisine while you’re there.

The new venture will open 50 theaters over the next five years in major metropolitan areas.  Each will feature 40 reclining seats with footrests, digital projection for 2D and 3D movies, valet parking, a bar and more.  There’s also the aforementioned fine cuisine such as sushi all at the touch of a button.

Of course, dinner and a movie places are nothing new.  You can find at least one in most major cities.  The difference here is the attempt to establish a brand.  Basically, they want to be the Tiffany’s of movie theaters.  But isn’t $35 a bit much for a movie?  Even with tickets now commonly running $10 or more most places, $35 is matching the price for buying a new Blu-ray disc.  That’s a much harder sale, even for higher income couples.
