Remember the good old days, when it actually took some modicum of talent to be successful at music? That no longer seems to be the case thanks to American Idol and MySpace. Josiah Leming, one of this season’s rejects who didn’t even manage to make it to the top 24, has apparently signed a record deal with Warner Brothers.
Now, nothing personal against Josiah, but when you can’t even make the top 24 on Idol there may be something wrong with your career prospects. Sure, plenty of talented people never even make it as far as he did, but there’s a reason they do not. The producers of American Idol simply don’t think they’re marketable. Here, the producers thought he was marketable and still couldn’t bring themselves to send him through. Again, not a good sign for this kid’s career.
Of course, it gets at the bigger issue which is that getting on video crying and embarassing yourself is all it take to be famous these days. No doubt Josiah has some talent, but the reason anyone remembers him is not for his talent, but for his crying fit he threw during the Hollywood round of American Idol. Thanks to that fit, you get another record you have no interest in buying.

I’ve already bought some of his online recordings. I think his music is compelling. I’m not sure why you’d put American Idol up on a pedestal as the ultimate arbiters of music. Warner Brothers, Sony Music, and other labels can’t have different opinions? I like competition, and I enjoy seeing American Idol proven wrong.

In six months you’ll likely be writing a follow up article admiting you assessment of Mr. Leming’s talents were undervalued.
A quick review of his writing talent alone would have exposed your off-target analysis. But then, you are “media w/a brain”!

Hello-
So you are 1 of very few that do not like Josiah- the kid has one of the most original voices, its different and fresh-
He used his own song to make it into idol and his songs on myspace are really good, miz cold play, snow patrol w/ some flava and you get Josiah
Warner Brother did themselves a favor, because this kid is going to sell tons of albums - Ellen Loves him, the media loves him, an MTV 5 min ibterview on him- He is going places and without producers and a tv show doing it for him-
btw i never write on these boards, just had to because this guy was so off-
losten to the lyrics, seems like you need it- or maybe you just want to conform to what you are told to listen to
