The Onion is one of those rare web site–it’s actually successful at being funny. That being said, the idea of an Onion movie doesn’t exactly instill confidence into one’s soul. Fake news articles are one thing, but can it really translate to the silver screen? Well, in this case, it won’t have to. Instead, the movie is coming straight to DVD. What’s incredibly interesting about all of this, however, is that the trailer actually looks good. No, it doesn’t look good in the way a film like Meet the Spartans looks good to twelve-year-olds, but it looks good to anyone who can remember HBO’s Not Necessarily the News. It looks good to anyone who can remember a time when comedy was more satire than sarcasm. Will it be a classic? Not likely, as it has been sitting on some dusty shelf for four years now. Still, the trailer alone is funnier than 95% of comedies released into theaters.
