Madonna wants to remake Casablanca

Files under Film | Leave a Comment

casablanca

Chalk it up under the mother of all bad ideas.  Madonna wants to remake Casablanca and set it in Iraq.  Good for delivering a political message, perhaps, but terrible for soiling the good name of a classic.

Madonna isn’t a terrible actress, but she needs the absolutely right material in order to work.  When left to carry a film on her own acting chops, she usually falls flat.  But watch her in Evita or A League of Their Own and you see an actress who can shine if directed properly.  But Casablanca?  She even apparently wants to take on the Ingrid Bergman role for herself.

DMX may just be the funniest crazy person ever

Files under Film, Music | 2 Comments

It isn’t nice to laugh at crazy people.  That’s why it’s very important someone figure out exactly what rapper, and sometimes actor, DMX is exactly.  A recent interview with XXL Mag made a turn for the weird side when DMX admitted he had no idea who Barack Obama was.

James Cromwell cast as Bush Sr.

So, James Cromwell goes from believing in pigs (though not ones that fly), to playing the father of the Federation in Star Trek, to now being the father of one of the most controversial presidents in US history.  That’s quite the evolution for an actor.  Ellen Burstyn will join him as Barbara Bush (also the senior one, and obviously not the young daughter).

Dr. Pepper offers free drink to everyone in USA if Guns N’ Roses releases album

Files under Music | Leave a Comment

guns_n_roses

Sure, it may sound like an April Fools’ headline, but remember this is several days early and this story very, very true.  In a genius stroke of marketing, Dr. Pepper has offered a free can of Dr. Pepper to everyone in the United States if Guns N’ Roses will just release their long-awaited album Chinese Democracy sometime in 2008.  Nothing like whiny hair metal and syrupy soda to bring democracy to the Communists!

Remember Third Rock from the Sun?  Joseph Gordon-Levitt sure does, as it’s the show that put him in the spotlight.  However, as his career progresses from child star to Hollywood leading man, he begins to resemble other TV actors from the past, such as Tom Hanks and Robin Williams.

Elizabeth Banks to play Laura Bush in Oliver Stone film

Files under Film | 1 Comment

Here’s a weird one to ponder.  How do you go from The 40-Year-Old Virgin to playing the First Lady?  That would be a good question to pose to Elizabeth Banks, who has been cast in Oliver Stone’s new biography of George W. Bush.
